VEGETARIAN DIET

So for this blog we had to make some dietary changes. I guess I made a poor decision to do without meat considering how I LOVE meat. Even further I decided to try a vegan diet instead. I feel like this is not a lifestyle I’ll ever want to keep with. Since I rarely eat meals without meat, it was certainly already boring on the first day. It consisted of salads and that’s about it. Ultimately I’m not really a fan of salads either, so I only had some fruits and veggies. By the end of the first day, I was hungry, well not really. But I had a strong desire to chew on something ever couple of minutes. In these following paragraphs I will post small paragraphs about my week. Noting I just gave up being vegan and just went to a regular lacto-ovo-vegetarian diet.

July 18

This is the first day I tried this new diet. I hate it. All I’ve had was veggies; I haven’t gotten the chance to go to the supermarket. So I’ve literally only eaten Caesar salads the entire day. This is probably not healthy for me. I keep getting the feeling of wanting to eat meat, why am I doing this to myself?

Okay so last night, I made some quinoa and made salad with eggs, apples, and avocadoes. A balsamic dressing was made to give it some flavour. I used to make this salad with meat, but since I’m cutting that out for a week, it was still pretty good.  Actually I love this salad, so I was fine with it the entire day. I’m pretty sure I made enough for tomorrow as well, but I don’t feel the satisfaction of being full, I’m not really hungry either.

July 20.

I went to the grocery store yesterday and loaded up on fruits. I was drooling while I was passing the meat, but it’s fine it’s only a week. I actually soft boiled some eggs, and their marinating in a soy sauce marinade. Those are delicious and I can’t wait to eat them tomorrow. As for this morning, I had yogurt with cereal mixed together. I forgot how delicious it was and ate two more bowls. Probably shouldn’t have but oh well. For lunch I had the salad again, I’ve never been so tired of salads. When I got home I just stir fried some eggs and tomatoes and mid mixed it with rice. It was delicious. I blanched some broccoli and ate it with the rice.

Okay so it hasn’t been too bad without meat. I still desire it though well today was a tofu day, you know since we made it in our labs this morning. I had miso soup all day; I wont grow old of miso soup. I also ate asparagus for lunch. For dinner I had leftovers. I guess one week will pass by quicker than I expected.

July 22

I made ramen today! It was delicious; a soy sauce based soup with ramen and soft-boiled eggs with baby corn, mushrooms and seaweed. It was fantastic, I might not mind eating this everyday. For breakfast I had bread with jam and peanut butter. I forgot how much I liked that. For lunch I just had a sandwich, if only there was ham.

July 23

I was really hungry; I had a omelette in the morning and then went treetop trekking today. I felt like there was a lot I wanted to eat, but the restaurant I went to didn’t have a lot of options for vegetarian food. There were a couple of plates none of them interested me. I ended up just getting one of the veggie options, but it wasn’t good. Since the broths are usually made with bones I couldn’t get a plain noodle either. I didn’t think that through. Luckily I brought a banana and had it before going home. We had a vegetarian pizza for the evening and the cheese brought me back to life.

July 24

First thing I’m glad this is the last day of my vegetarian diet. I just made one large bowl of stir-fried vermicelli and had it. All day, Sundays are my lazy days, probably really unbalanced but I just didn’t care anymore.

Honestly being on the diet isn’t that bad, but I just felt I was repeating my menus. I’m sure there are plenty of recipes vegetarians can enjoy fully but I don’t think I can give up the texture of meats and the flavours that come from meat. Though this is a good experience since it was the longest period of time I went without eating meat. However, I wouldn't mind expanding my vegetarian dishes because there are dishes that are good. I previously thought vegetarian dishes would be boring, but keeping that lifestyle for a week wasn't all too bad.

For anyone who wants to go vegetarian, or at least give this lifestyle choice a try, I would suggest doing research. It's easier to plan things out from the beginning and going with the flow. I'd also say to do things slowly, suddenly changing your diet from one to another is kind of hard to manage.
