ABOUT ME

My name is Loretta Wong and I am currently a student at George Brown. Although I've only worked as a waitress, my goal is to work in the kitchen. I love to cook for friends and family, seeing people enjoy the food I cook make me happy. In addition, I love eating new foods because I believe food is one of many gateways to various cultures. I find that I love to try foods from different countries, and then attempt to learn more about the dish and recreate it. I find myself constantly learning about flavours used by different countries to achieve the taste of the cultures. At the dessert store I am currently employed at, the chef has worked in Japan for several years. As a result, she adds the flavors of Japan in some of her desserts which sets her desserts apart from other desserts. 

 

My philosophy towards food has been try new and different things in a good moderation. There's no doubt that people nowadays base their diets on their appearances or schedules. I feel that many people don't understand food well enough to eat properly balanced meals. If such is the case, forget trying foods around the world, they can barely understand their own foods. We need to educate ourselves about the food we place in our bodies, when we understand this and branch on into different types of food, our lives could become much richer. As the quote above says, we need to make our meals into something fun instead of constant calculations about calorie intakes. Trying new recipes can also affect our taste palates, and maybe even educate us about different places and people around the world through their taste buds.

 

Through this blog, I'd like to offer a view of different foods from different parts of the world. Although I would like to also understand more food cultures from the countries I don't know about. My blogging experience will allow me to further my love for the foods and cultures around me. Follow me in my adventures!
